Playing dominoes at Oak Street Beach, May 2023.
Moving is hard work and my brain is absolute mush, so here are some pictures from my transition back to Chicago from Los Angeles that happened just weeks ago.
The redwoods in Oakland, California. This was my first time seeing them in the eight years I lived in California because I also didn’t have a car/didn’t drive.
Kanchan from Octavia’s viewfinder in Oakland.
I left LA and spent a week and some change up in the Bay to say see ya later to my Bay area homies and to shoot some portraits for a special project I’m working on with the one and only Bryant Terry!
I’ve been working with Octavia more these days (named after Octavia Butler, of course) my Fuji GX680II, which has all the movements of a 4x5 view camera but takes 120 film and produces 6x9 negatives, and getting back into the groove of hybrid shooting which I’ve missed dearly, but more on that in the next newsletter.
My bestie, Olive the terrier, furchild of my friend’s Nader and Rowan.
Lighting palo santo before dinner in LC’s backyard before leaving Los Angeles.
It’s a delight to be back home. It’s a gift to have so many places and people who are home to me.
